Criteria
Tier I--Site should:
- be attractive and uniquely designed (see Scoring)
- show originality and creativity (see Scoring)
- be visually appealing and color-coordinated (see Scoring)
- have interesting content (see Scoring)
- have an overall theme (see Scoring)
- have clear/simple navigation (see Tips 1)
- use reasonably sized font, not too big nor too small (see Tips 1)
- use alt tags on linked objects/graphics (excluding text links)
- be in English.......otherwise--site is only eligible for the special Design Award (see View Awards)
- have functional intralinks
- give credit where due
- be designed and maintained by the person submitting for an award
- be viewable in both Netscape 6.2/Internet Explorer 6.0
- load in a reasonable time on a cable modem
- have a 'skip intro' link when using Flash
- have a privacy policy page if site is business or commercial related
Tier II--Site should not have:
- horizontal scrollbar (800 X 600 resolution)
- spelling/grammar errors unless done intentionally to fit the theme
- teensy-tiny font (see Tips 1)
- broken images or red "X's"
- different background on each page
- mouse cursor trails
- disabled right mouse button
- all text written in italics or centered
- every page opening in a new window
- more than 1 applet per page
- ticker tape text
Tier lll--Automatic disqualification
- crashing or freezing my system
- stolen graphics
- bandwidth stealing
- pornography, violence, child/animal abuse, sexism, racism, foul language or gross material
- copyright infringement
- foul language or gross material
- pop-up windows which are not self induced
- pages that require more than 5 scrolls (800x600) without an "up" link or navigation at the bottom (see Tips 1)
- websites which do not openly display an Awards Won page (see Questions)
- sites that you must "accept" conditions or disclaimers in order to gain entrance to any page on the site
- inappropriate terminology unsuitable for children to read (see Questions)
- a blank page with only "under construction" or "coming soon"
- outside links only
- meta tags are "hidden" on any pages of the site
- pages where I have to use "ctrl/delete" to close down
Tier IV--Non-English websites
- are eligible for the special Design Award
- are now listed on a separate winner's page
